Your text deserves care.
This policy describes AlpacaEdit for macOS and its pages at apps.inncommand.com. AlpacaEdit is developed by David Jones. The current app is in development; this policy describes the features in the current development edition.
Documents and local data
Core editing does not require an account. Documents are opened from locations you choose using macOS file access controls. Settings, reusable workflows, captured snippets, file-access bookmarks, recovery snapshots, and document backups are stored locally in the app’s container on your Mac. Recovery snapshots and backups can contain document text, including unsaved text.
AlpacaEdit does not automatically upload your documents to InnCommand. If you choose a folder managed by iCloud, another cloud provider, or a mounted server, that service may sync the files according to its own settings and policies.
Optional AI requests
AI is optional. When you choose OpenAI or Claude and confirm a request, AlpacaEdit sends your prompt and the context you explicitly choose (none, a selection, or the current file) directly to OpenAI or Anthropic, respectively. Your API key authenticates the request. The provider also receives connection information such as your IP address and handles usage and billing through your provider account.
No entire project is uploaded automatically. InnCommand does not operate an intermediary AI server and does not receive copies of these requests. OpenAI requests set the API’s store option to false; this does not guarantee zero retention by the provider. Each provider’s retention, security, and account policies apply. Avoid sending confidential or personal information unless you intend to share it with that provider.
OpenAI privacy policy · Anthropic privacy policy
AI responses remain in the current assistant view unless you copy them, open them as a draft, or apply an edit. Drafts and applied edits then follow the app’s local recovery and backup behavior. Cancelling a request cannot retract data already received by the provider.
API keys and clipboard
API keys are stored in macOS Keychain, not in exported preferences or project files. You can remove a saved key in the AI pane. AlpacaEdit reads or writes the clipboard when you use editing, copy, paste, or snippet commands. It does not continuously monitor clipboard contents. Explicitly captured snippets are saved locally for reuse.
Analytics and advertising
The app has no advertising, tracking SDKs, or developer-operated analytics. Apple may provide crash diagnostics and distribution reports according to your Apple settings and Apple’s policies.
Website and support
Visiting this website sends ordinary request information, such as an IP address, requested page, and browser information, to the hosting server. Server logs are used to operate and secure the site. The AlpacaEdit information pages do not include advertising or analytics scripts.
If you submit the support form, we receive the email address, topic, and message you provide so we can respond. The form uses a session cookie and security token to protect submissions and may process connection information to prevent abuse. Do not include API keys, passwords, or confidential document contents. Support correspondence is retained as needed to respond and maintain support records, subject to applicable obligations.
Your choices and deletion
You can use the editor without AI, cancel before sending a request, remove API keys in the assistant, and delete captured snippets. Local recovery and backups are retained until you remove them from its local data folder (Settings → Data → Show Local Data in Finder). Removing the app alone may not remove Keychain items or all local data. Files saved outside the app’s container remain in their chosen locations.
For data you sent to an AI provider, use that provider’s account and privacy controls. For a support-data access or deletion request, use the contact form and choose Privacy request.
Changes and contact
We will update this page when the app’s data practices change and revise the effective date. Questions about this policy can be sent through AlpacaEdit support.
